Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is a 2013 American-German 3D action-horror dark fantasy comedy film, it is  written and directed by Tommy Wirkola, this movie was released on January 25, 2013.

I got this movie from my cousin, i watched this movie by myself on February 7, 2014.

SYNOPsiS

            The movie tells us about two siblings who were left by their parents in a big jungle until they found a house which made from candy and chocolate. They ate it fastly, but they didnot realize that the big danger has came closer to them. When they were eating that candy suddenly the door opened. At the beginning, they doubted to come in, but finally they came in to the house, and they were surprised by a scary witch who was standing in front of them. The scary witch arrested them in the house, she forced hansel to eat candy more and more because she would make hansel as a sacrifition, then she asked gretel to for preparing a lot of woods and fire. But her planning wasnot going succes, suddenly hansel could escape from the handcuff, hansel and gretel  burned that witch until she died. Thit incident has become the turning point of ther life, they always killed every witch they met. They visited town to town for killing all witches and safe people from the witch. Then they called as “witch Hunter”.

            They grew up and earn money as witch hunter, they were so famous for becoming witch hunter, on the otherhand gretel often remembered about their parents, she wanted to know the reason of her parents for throwing her and hansel away in the jungle. Once night she asked about their parents to hansel but hansel refused to answer, he didnot want to remember about it anymore. For him it was the most painful memory, he told gretel that their parents was so cruel, he asked gretel not to talk it anymore, meanwhile they didnot know what was happened truely.

            One day they came to a town to safe a woman who was accused as a witch , her name is Mina. Hansel and Gretel checked Mina, she wasnot a witch and she was free from the accuse. Mina felt so reliefed but the sheriff of the town didnot believe in them. He got so annoyed by Hansel and Gretel, and he has made a plann for them. The mayor of the town asked them to stay at the town, he told that he needed their help to find the leader of the witch who kidnapped children every night, they accepted the request ,they decided to stay. They met mina everyday and they became a friend, they also met a boy who really admired them, this boy also wanted to become a witch hunter and he always helped them.

            In this town their adventures was started, they fought with witches and safe children, until they known a fact that answered gretel’s question about their parents. They met with Muriel, the leader of witch who kidnapped the children.

The characters

1.         Jeremy Renner as Hansel

He is the main character of this movie who falling in love with mina at the end of the story. Hansel has a disease caused of eating candy too much inthe witch’s house in his chilhood. He is a brave man who like to help people from witches. He is a gentleman who always protect his sister, Gretel. He is not easy to belive in people, he needs a prove. Hansel is a man who never wants to remember about his previous.

2.       Gemma Arterton as Gretel

This beautiful lady is also the main characters of this movie. Gretel is the smart girl, she is so careful. She is a brave girl who has killed so many witch. Different with Hansel she always thought about her parents. Athe end of the story she known that she is a white witch.

3.       Pihla Viitala as Mina

A woman who like to help Hansel and Gretel, she is smart. actually she is a white witch same with hansel and gretel’s mother but she never tells it to anyone. She helped hansel to prepare  the things to attack witchel and safe Gretel when she was kidnapped by the leader of the witch.

4.       Famke Janssen as Muriel

The leader witch, she is a cruel witch, she kidnapped children to be a sacrifition. She is also the witch who killed Hansel and Gretel’s mother. She is greedy and she is really cruel.

Sometimes she can change tobe a human from witch.

5.       Peter Stormare as Berringer

The cruel sheriff in the town, he really hates Hansel and Gretel. He wants tobe a mayor in the town, so he always does all things to take sympathy from the villagers. Finally he killed the mayor of the village.

6.       Derek Mears as Edward

He is the servant of all the witch, he is the protector of witch, and he kidnapped the children for sacrifition. But he helped Gretel when she lost from her fighting with the sherif, he also help Gretel in the big fighting betwen Hansel and Gretel wirh Muriel, he was nearly dead.

Finally he became Hansel and Gretel’s friend, he is also the witch hunter.

7.       Thomas Mann as Benjamin

A boy who admires Hansel and Gretel,he also want to be a witch hunter.

He is brave enough, he always help Hansel and Gretel in their fighting with witches.

Plot

Introduction
Hansel and Gretel is siblings who left by their parents in the middle of a jungle on midnight. They didnot know why their parents did that to them . They keep walking until they found a house made by candy and chocolate, they ate that until a scary witch appeared. They fought with the wutch and they could kill her. After that time they became witch hunter and they got famous. They killed witch from town to town.One day they came to the town and killed witches there, the leader of the witch got so angry and wanted to kill them.

The Climate

One day Muriel trapped Hansel and Gretel in their childhood home that made them remembered their childhood with their parents. In this home Muriel told the truth about their parents, the truth is their parents never thrown them away. They left Hansel and Gretel in the jungle to safe them, because when their father took them to the jungle, their mother was burned by villagers, and then their father was killed.

Muriel told that it happened because her, she told to all people that Gretel’s mother is a witch who always kidnapped children, actually she wanted to kidnap Gretel when villagers killed her parents. But their parents has taken them to the jungle to safe them, so Muriel failed to make Gretel as a sacrifition. She also told that actually Gretel is a white witch same with her mother. Hansel and Gretel was so surprised for hearing that, they really hated Muriel for what she has done. They directly attacked Muriel, a big fighting happened .Unfortunately Hansel and Gretel failed to defeat Muriel, and Muriel took Gretel with her. Gretel will be the sacrifition for the blood moon, Gretel’s heart will make all witches cannot be burned.

On the other side Hansel, mina, and Ben were busy for preparing all things to safe Gretel and attack all witches in the blood moon.

On the night, all witches from the world came to the sacrifition place for the blood moon. When they gathered, Hansel came and attacked them. Mina helped Hansel from the other side. Hansel safe the children ,and he didinot saw that Gretel is in the danger, Muriel would kill her but Edward safe her. all witches was dead except Muriel, she could escape. Hansel, Gretel, mina and Ben chased her until they found the home when Hansel and Gretel were arrested by witch in their childhood. Suddenly Muriel appeared, she attacked them and mina was killed.Hansel felt so angry, Gretel attacked her back. A big fighting happened among them, finally Muriel gave up in the big fighting.

Resolution

Muriel was killed, Hansel and Gretel felt so satisfied, they did it for their parents. After that moment they never hate their parents anymore because they have known the truth.

They keep being the witch hunter, of course with Ben and Edward beside them.

They visited town to town for killing witches.

Language Expression

·        Ben said “I will stay here” : he wants go

·        Hansel said “I don’t want to talk it” : he wants, but it will make him so sad.

·        Gretel said “I don’t want to drink ”this water: she wants but she is afraid.

·        Hansel said to Mina “the situation will be alright” : The situation is really complicated

·        Muriel said “I will tell you a sad story” : she told the truth about Hansel and Gretel’s mother

Moral Value

Handel and Gretel hated their parents because theur parent throwed them to the ungle, but actually they did it to safe them. It teaches ud that we maynot hate our parents, because what they do is for our goodness. Sometimes the good is not always good. Sometimes people do the bad for the good.
