Lemony snickets “A Series of Unfortunaate Events” is a 2004 American black comedy fantasy film directed by Brad Silberling. Genre of the movie is fantasy, comedy, family, and adventures film. This movie was released on December 17, 2004 in USA.

I got this movie from my friend, and I watched it on March 27, 2014 with my friends in my boarding.

Synopsis :

Violet, Klaus and sunny were the children of Mr and Mrs. Baudelaire. Their parents were a famous scientist, and the three children are the smart children. They lived happily in a big house who has it own library. Until one day, when Violet, Klaus, and Sunny were playing in the beach, Mr.Poe, a banker, informed them that their parents have died in a fire that destroyed their home. They have lost their parents, they also did not have home again. It was the lowest time in their life, and they did not realize that it was the beginning of their unfortunate events.

Mr. Poe took charge of them, he gave them to the nearest relatives, Count Olaf. Mr. Poe said that Count Olaf was their nearest relatives, but they were not sure. Although they were not sure, they had to live with him. Count Olaf was a cruel man who wanted to take their parents money. He wanted to kill that three children, but it was not easy to kill that that smart children. Mr. Poe saw what Count Olaf did to the Children, He took the children to another relatives, Uncle Monty, the reptile scientist. Then Uncle Monty was killed by Count Olaf, because count Olaf wanted the children to live with him. Count Olaf always followed them, wherever they were. They were given to Aunt Josephine, but no long time after that she was also killed by Count Olaf who distinguished himself. They struggled to face the evil Count Olaf and unfortunate events that always came to them.

                                        

The Characters :

1.     Emily Browning as Violet

Violet is the oldest children in Baudelaire family. She is a great inventor whenever she tight her hair. She is a smart girl who make the useless things to be the useful things.

2.    Liam Aiken as Klaus

The second children in Baudelaire family. He is really good in research, he always check what violet find. He is a smart boy who loves reading books. Everyday he spend most of his time in library.

3.    Kara Hoffman as Sunny

The last child in Baudelaire family, she is two years old. She is different with his siblings because she has other interest. Though, she is just a baby, she is good in biting everything. Eventually, she become a wonderful cook.

4.    Jim Carrey as Count Olaf

A cruel man who admit himself as the nearest family of Baudelaire. He wants to take all the poverty of Baudelaire’s family. He follow the three children wherever Mr. Poe take them to other relatives. He was finally arrested caused of his bad behavior.

5.    Meryl Streep as aunt Josephine

She said she is also the relatives of Baudelaire. She lived in a very terrible house that built in the border of the sea. She worries about everything, the Baudelaire orphans must be careful to do anything in her house. Though aunt Josephine is a good woman, she is finally killed by Count Olaf.

6.    Timothy Spall as Mr. Poe

A banker who take charge to Baudelaire orphans. He gave that three children from one relatives to other relatives. He is a responsible banker, but unfortunately he never trust what the children said about Count Olaf.

7.    Billy Cannolly as Uncle Monty

He is the reptile scientist who take care of threat three children after Count Olaf. He is a good relatives who has many collection of snakes in his house. He is finally killed by Count Olaf.

8.    Catherine O’Harra as Justice Strass

She is a justice who lives In front of Count Olaf’s house. She is a good woman who loves the children.

Plot

Introduction

A Series of Unfortunate Events is the story of the three Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Claus and Sunny. The books are narrated by Lemony Snicket, a mysterious man who follows the story through clues passed on through a secret organization known only as the V.F.D. The series begins with the three children losing their parents in a fire. Consequently, a banker named Mr. Poe takes charge of the children and leaves them with the nearest relative, Count Olaf. The children, however, are dubious to the fact that Olaf is actually a relative. Olaf and his troupe become the villain of the series. During their stay with Count Olaf, the children are forced to perform ridiculous and cruel tasks. Eventually, the children are able to escape, and though the children are not still under Olaf's care, he is still intent on finding them and stealing their money. In each book, the children are given a different guardian which causes more problems for them. In their attempts to settle down into a home, the orphans find that the problems they encounter all seem to be pointing to the same mysterious agency, the V.F.D. They meet many members of this secret organization that train them in different areas.

Climate

            Count Olaf got that three children back, and they lived in his home again. He knew that he had to marry Violet, so he could take all the poverty of them. He announced to all people, that he wanted to make a play about marriage. He and violet would be the bride and groom. Nobody knew that the marriage hat would be hold was a real married, not a play. He treat the Baudelaire orphans, if violet refused to marry him. Sunny would be dead, then violet realized the meaning of what Count Olaf told them. Sunny was in danger, and one thing that she would do that she had to marry Count Olaf. Klaus did not allow  her to do that, and he promised to look for the solution. Violet was angry and said she must do that for Sunny. Finally Count Olaf Married her in the play, and after violet gave her signature to the Marriage letter, he announced to all people that it was not a play. He was really happy that he could take all of their poverty. It made all people angry, Mr. Poe felt sorry to violet.

Resolution

While Count Olaf announced that marriage, klaus was busy to safe sunny. He climbed the buliding where sunny was put by count Olaf. Finally he could safe sunny, and he saw Count Olaf Showed off the marriage letter. He Combine he sunlight through the mirror who result as a fire, the fire burned the marriage letter. It means the marriage failed. Count Olaf was arrested, and the Baudelaire orphans were sent to other relatives by Mr. Poe.

Moral Value

ü  Count Olaf did everything to got the poverty of Baudelaire, until he was arrested caused of his behavior, it teaches us that we may not be greedy and we cant take what we don’t have.

ü  Mr. Poe Never believes what the three children said about count Olaf until he found the truth, it make us realize we have to listen carefully and prove it before we don’t believe in children. There is no dubious to doubt them, actually.

ü  Violet, Klaus, and Sunny always succeed to find  the solution when they faced problems.What they do for struggling their life is a good example for our life. Don’t give up easily when you face a problem. Keep trying!

ü  The Baudelaire orphans got a little shocked when the unfortunate events came to them.We must know that life is not always about happiness, but it is also about sadness. Sometimes we smile, sometimes tears drop. It definitely will.

Comment on The movie

The Baudelaire orphans make this movie to be a really excellent movie. Their strugling for their life together, they love and protect each other as what siblings should done. They accomplished all the dangers together, they never gave up whenever they were in a complicated moment. They always faced the unfortunate events that happened to them. This movie use a good English that easy to understand and to listen. No one of the characters use the dirty words in their role. This is really a good movie. Amazing!

“Jack, The Giant Slayer”

Synopsis :

            Long time ago, monks of a kingdom created a magic seeds who grew became trees until the peak of the sky. They climbed that trees to met their God, unexpected thing happened when they reached the peak of the sky. They found many giants lived there, The giants killed them, and they used the trees to go to the earth. They attacked humans, until King Erik wore a crown that made them obeyed his commands. All giants came back to their place cause of King Erik’s command, and that trees were cut. So giants couldnot go down to the earth, but the giants promise to kill all of the generations of King Erik.

People belived that it was just a story, but that believed disappeared when the magic seeds grew again, and the princess or a daughter of King Brahmwell was kidnapped by the giants.The giants wasnot only a story!

Jack ,was a name of a usual person who became famous because he could safe the princess from the giants, he also  safe the kingdom when many giants attacked the kingdom by using the magic crown who had stolen by Roderick, the betrayal of the kingdom. He was falling in love with the princess, and the princess really loved him. King Brahmwell erased the rule that princess could only marry with prince. They got married , they lived happily ever after.

The Characters

1.      Nicholas Hault as Jack

He was a poor man who lived with his uncle. He was a brave man who safe the princess. He liked challenge, although he was afraid of the high, he keep climbing the trees to safe the princess. He was a good man who like to help each other.

But he was a little careless, because he didnot keep the magic seeds carefully. As the result, the seeds grew again, and it caused many problems.

2.      Eleanor Tomlinson as The princess Isabel

She was an adventurer girl. She liked to go outside, she was often in danger caused of her behavior. She was really humble, although she was a princess. She was a brave girl, she wasnot easy to give up. She would neva do what she didnot want.

She wasnot arrogant, she fell in love with a poor man while she was a princess.

3.      Ewan McGregor as Elmon

A faithful soldier of the kingdom. He protected the princess and the king. Even he was willing to sacrifice his soul. He was a brave soldier, he didnot afraid of everything. He safe jack and the princess when they were in the giant’s place. He would to everything for that kingdom.

4.      Ian Mcshane as King Brahmwell

A wise king who really loved his people. He took decision fastly for his people, although the decision made him sacrifice his daughter. He would do everything to safe his people. For him, his people was the most important.

5.      Stanley Tucci as Roderick

He was the betrayal of the kingdom, he stole the magic seeds, also the crown so he asked the giant to attack the kingdom. He was thirsty of power, he was greedy. He wanted to marry the princess isabell, so that he would be the King. Fortunately, before it happened he was killed by elmon at the peak of the sky.

6.      Bill Nighy as Fallon

The leader of all giants, he had two heads. He was cruel, he liked eating and killing people. He wanted to kill all of the generation from King Erix. He came to the kingdom with all giants and attacked the kingdom. He was killed by Jack.

PLOT

Introduction

            When magic seeds grew up until the peak of the sky again, it was brought a house. In that house Princess Issabell was trapped. Giants caught her, and they wanted to kill her. Then they wanted to go back to the earth. All people was asked to look for her, include Jack, elmon, Roderick and many souldiers. They climbed the trees, but when they got the peak of the sky, elmon and other soldiers were caught. Roderick had the crown of king Eric, the Giants couldnot do anything except to do his commands. Finally The princess and Elmon could be safe by Jack. Roderick was killed by Elmon because he was a betrayal. Although they could escape, and the trees had been cut, The giants had the seeds who was fallen by Roderick when he fought with elmon. The giants went down to the earth, the kingdom was in a big danger.

Climate

            The Giants found the magic seeds who was fallen by roderick when he was fighting with Elmon. They planted that seeds, it grew up and it created the way for going to the earth. They all went down and attacked the kingdom. The big fighting happened among the soldiers who led by Elmon, even the king participated to defeat the giants. King Brahmwell asked Issabel to go to the secreet room and inform about the giants to other kingdom. Isabel and jack went to the secreet room, on the way they met Fallon. Fallon chased them until he could get both of them. When he wanted to eat Jack, Jack took one magic seeds which he saved in his necklace and put it into his mouth. Meanwhile, the war keep going on, the giants was too strong for all the soldiers.They couldnot defend the bridge who was pulling by all giants. One by one of the soldiers start giving up , while Elmon and the king has been ready to kill the giants with their swords if the giants could enter the kingdom.

Resolution

The magic seeds who was put by Jack in the mouth of Fallon grew fastly. He was killed, and his body was separated . All giants finally could enter the kingdom, they were ready to kill the soldiers. Suddenly all giants stopped because they saw Jack wore the Magic crown, Jack has took it back from Fallon. As we know, they would do all commands that the person who wore the magic crown to them. Jack asked them to go back to their place, then the trees were cut. So the giants couldnot go down to the kingdom anymore. On the other hand, love also grew up between Jack and Princess Isabel, they got married. Since that time King Brahmwell erased the rule that a princess could only get married with honor person. The magic crown was hidden in a secreet place. All people lived happily ever after.

Moral value :

v Jack never believed that giants was only a story, until one day he could prove it. It means we must get the proof before we belive in something,

v Jack was scared with the high, but to safe isabel he was willing to go to the peak of the sky, he ignored his phobyia, it teaches us that loving people , also sacrifice for that people.

v When Jack could ignore his phobia to safe Isabel, it was enough to show us that Love has a big power.

v King Brahmwell was forced to erase the rule that princess could only get marry with the noble one, this one teach us that love comes to everyone, poor or rich. Princess or usual person. Love never cares about that.

Comment on the movie :

This movie is good enough to watch. Why? Because the characters in the movie like king brahmwell, who was a wise king and really love his people is a good lesson for us. The princess Isabel was humble and never be arrogant is a good example in this life.

Love between Isabel and jack, A princess and a poor man teach us that love comes to everyone.

“The Lightening Thief”

This is an american features film series based on the novel series of the same name by the author Rick Riordan.The Lighning thief was a movie who directed byChris Columbus, it was released on February 12, 2010.

Synopsis

            The movie is about a boy named Percy Jackson , he live as the usual human being with his mother and his stepfather. Until one day he realized him self as the son of the God Poseidon, it took hom into a big trouble. He was accused as the lightning thief by the God Zeus, the brother of his father, while he never did . Everyday he was chased by monsters who asked to give the lightninng back to Zeus. Mr. Brunner,the God who distinguished himself as a teacher to look after of Percy,realized Percy was in a big danger. Then he asked Grover (Percy’s friend who actually a half of human and a half of goat who distinguish tobe human just to protect Percy) to take percy to the camp where all son and daughter of the God live there.

            Grover and Percy went to percy’s mother and tell whats happening,percy’s mother accompanied them to the camp,but in front of the gate of the camp, percy mother couldnot enter because she is a human, not like percy and grover. When percy was talking to his mother a minatour who sent by hades, the brother of Poseidon an Zeus who thrown away to the hell, kidnapped Percy’s mother. Percy couldnot do anything but he promised he would safe his mother.

            He and grover entered the camp, he saw many unusual things there. He met Mr. Brunner as the half of human and a half of horse, Mr. Bruner told percy what has happened to Percy and he showed percy a house who made by his father, Poseidon.

In the camp percy met with Anabet, the daughter of the God Athena. She was a strong girl who had won hundreds fighting in the camp. Anabet did not like Percy because Their parents werenot in a good relation. They were involved an a fighting, percy was hurt by anabet, he nearly gave up but then he listened someone whispered and asked him to come closer to the river besides him, he would get his power from the water. He obeyed that and he could beat anabet. After the day, anabet were interested tobe his friend.

            On the night, when everyone was enjoying their dinner in the camp, minatour appeared again and asked Percy to give the lightning back again or his mother would be trapped in underworld forever. Percy wanted to go, but mr.bruneer asked him to stay and just follow his planning. But in the midnight, Percy decided to help his mother by himself. He also must found the lightning so the God Zeus wouldn’t accused him anymore,If he could find the lightning, the war between Zeus and his father wouldnot happen, so he wanted to escape. Grover saw Percy, he asked to go with percy because he is the protector of percy. On the way they met Anabet, and anabet asked to go with tem because he wanted to help them.Before they left, they went to lukas, The son of the God Hermes. They asked Lukas how to go to the underworld, Lukas told them that they had to find three pearl to bring them back if they went to the underworld because no one can go back to the world. Then, they went to the places where the pearls located. Their adventures started here, they met Medusa, trapped in the party, until they met their parents.

The Characters

1.      Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson

He is the son of the god Poseidon, although he never meet his father but his father is always besides him when he is in trouble. He was a strong boy and never feel scared to everything.Water is his power because his father is the god of Water. He really loved his mother and he does everything for his mother. He isnot easy to give up,and  he is a hardworker. He hated his father because he was left by him when he was still a baby. But finally he could understand after Poseidon explaned him that God couldnot contact with their children.

2.      Brandon T. Jackson as Grover

A half of Goat and human. He is the junior protector who must protect Percy when the danger appeared. He is a faith person, he always accompany Percy whereever he goes.Beside that, he is also a fun person. He really hopes his torn can grown so he can be the senior protector.

3.      Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth

The Daughter of the God attena, she is ambisitius girl, she has won hundreds fighting in the camp. First time she saw Percy, she hated him, but finally she helped Percy to find his mother. She also accompanied Percy to give the lightning back to Zeus

4.      Kevin McKIDD as Poseidon

The God of water,he is the father of Percy Jackson. He left Percy and his mother because the rules who made by Zeus, his brother. He never appeared in front of Percy but he always help Percy when he is in trouble. He was nearly involved in a war with Zeus because Zeus accused his son as the thief of the lightning. 

5.      Sean Bean as Zeus

The older brother of Zeus. Although he is a God, he like accusing person without a proof.

He made decision as what he want without thinking the result. He is also the one who created the rules that Gods Couldnot meet with their children.

6.      Catherine Keenen as Sally

Percy’s mother, he is the wife of Poseidon. In order to protect percy he married with another man,so no one knows that percy is the son of Poseidon. She does everything to protect Percy, even sacrifice herself.

7.      Steve Googan as Hades

The brother of Zeus and Poseidon,but he was throwed away to the heel by them.He is really scary and he lives in the heel with a woman that he considered as his wife. When he knew that percy was accused as the lightening thief, he chased percy and kidnapped his mother. He wanted the lightning , so he could has the power and he could revenge to is brothers. Finally, Percy could killed him.

8.      Jace Abel as Luke

The son of God Hermes. He always helped Percy in everything, but actually he wasnot as good as what percy thought. He was the lightning thief, he wanted the war between the God. He gave a shell which filled with the lightning to Percy, so percy was accused as the lightning thief. Actually He only pretended to be the good person.

9.      Uma Thurman as Medusa

An evil woman, who was turned by Athena tobe the woman with the hair full of snakes. Everyone who see her eyes will turn tobe a stone.

10.  Pierce Brosman as Mr. Brunner

A half of human and a half of horse. He must look after everything that Percy does. He trained percy in the camp. He is a good person.

Introduction

Percy jackson was born as the son of Poseidon, The god of Water. But he never met his Father, he lived with his mother and his stepfather. One day he was studying in a museum about all Gods,when he payed attention to yunani’s alphabets, he realized he could read the yunani’s alphabet while he couldnot read english alphabet.  Suddenly a monster appeared and attacked him, the monster told him to give the lightning back, the monster also said if Percy did not give the lighning back to Zeus, Zeus and Poseidon is ready to meet in the war. Percy got confuse, Mr.brunner ask Grover to safe Percy and take him to the Camp.

Climate

Percy, Grover and Anabeth went to the place where the pearl is showed by the map who given by Luke. The Pearl’s place is in a house where medusa lived, they were surprised. Medusa realized their coming, she asked them to see her eyes, but they closed their eyes deeply. Then they attacked Medusa, finally they could kill her,and they got the first pearl in Medusa’s hand. The next place is in Museum,and before they got the second pearl, they had to fight with Hydra,Fortunaly they could kill the hydra, they got the second pearl. The third place is Nevada,Las Vegas. This place trapped them, they lost their concious bacause the ate a flower who made them forget their mission. Fortunately, Porseidon whispered to Percy and made him awake. Percy looked for anabeth and grover, he made them awake and they tried to escape. When they were running, Percy saw the third pearl, he took it quicly. They had got all pearls, then they went to the Heel, the place where Hades lived, and also where Percy’s mother was arrested. When they have arrived in the heel, they met Persephone and she took them to Hades. Hades asked Percy to give the lightning to him, but percy told that he did not know about that.

 Then Hades told that if percy didot give the lightning to him, his mother will be killed. Hades showed him his mother, but percy emphasized that the lightning wasnot with him. Hades attacked him, and percy used the shell that luke gave to him. Percy was lost by Hade and the shell felt in front of them.

Suddenly they saw the lightning was in the shell. Percy was really surprised, he realized that luke wanted to trapp him, so he would be accused as the lightning thief. Hades got angry , he took the lightning, he wanted to kill Percy, anabeth, Grover, and also Percy’s mother, suddenly persephone took the lightning from Hades and attacked him, Hades was killed. Actually, Persephone hated Hades, and she chose to help Percy. Then she asked them to leave the place, but thre were only three pearl, and it wasnot enough for them. Grover told that he would stay, percy promised him that he would pick him up. Then Percy, his mother and anabeth was taken to the Olympus where all Gods gathered and they were waiting someone to back the lightning, so there will be no war between Zeus and Poseidon. But before They came in, Luke appeared. He asked percy to give the lightning to him, because he wanted the big war happened. Percy denied that, Luke attacked him, and they were fighting each others. Luke got the ligtning, but percy wasnot an easy person to give up. He attacked Luke with his water power and he got the lighning back.

Resolution

Percy and anabeth came in to the Olyimpus while his mother couldn’t do that, because she is a human. Percy gave the lightning to Zeus, and Zeus told him that he was a great thief Then Percy explained who the thief was, the thief was Luke, the son of Hermes. Zeus said thanks to him, and the war was canceled. Percy told to Zeus for taking Grove back to the camp from the heel and Zeus said he would make it. In Olympus anabeth met her mom, the god athena, Percy also met with his father for the first time.

Poseidon asked Zeus to allow him for talking with percy a moment. Zeus allowed him just for that time. Poseidon told Percy that he rally loves percy and his mother, but he couldnot stay with them because he was  a God.

He had to obey the rule who made by Zeus that God wasnot allowed to meet with their son or daughter. He also told Percy that although he did not stay with him , he was always besides Percy whereever he was. He would always helped Percy when he was in trouble, although percy couldnot see him. Finally percy could understand it, after that time he did not hate his father anymore. Percy, his mother and Anbeth left Olympus, he took his mother to the house,  after that he and anabeth went back to the Camp where they ought to live. Mr. Bruner was really proud of them. Percy met with Grover again, and he had torns now, he has been a senior protector. They got so relief because they could give the lightning back. Mr. Bruner was so proud of them.

Zeus said “ But our children arenot” : God children arenot taught that being a thief to get a power is forbidden.

Poseidon said, “so you accuse my son as the lighning thief?”: his son is impossible to do that.

Percy, “show your respect to my mom” : He wanted his stepfather appreciate his mom

Sally said ,” No honey, he loves you, he is forced to leave” : she explaine to Percy that his father never wants to leave him

Grover said, “ trust me, use it or die” : Percy must use the protector to make him safe

Percy said to Grover ,”I will come back for you” : he promised Grover to pick him up from the heel later.

Luke said to Percy,”I am the lightning Thief.” : he is the truly thief of the lightning

Zeus said ,”you have done well” : he is proud to Percy

Zeus said ,” Let be the peace.” : the war is canceled

Athena said to anabeth,”I am so proud of you” : she was proud with what anabeth has done.

Zeus said ,” and now you want me to bring him back.” : he will do that for percy.

Poseidon said,” Brother, please, I need to speak with him .” : he asked Zeus for allowing him to speak with Percy

Zeus said,” Just for this moment.” : he allows Poseidon to speak with Percy just for once.

Percy said to his father ,” I don’t need you along the time, but at least just once.” : actually he really needs his father along the time.

Moral Value:

Zeus Accused Percy as the lightening thief without any proof, finally percy could proved himself that he wasnot the lightening thief. It teaches us not to accuse someone without a complete proof.
The hard struggling of percy to prove he wasnot the thief teach us dont easily give up in doing everything although there are so many challenges.
Percy hated his father so much until he knew the reason why his father left him and his mom,it means that we cannot hate someone without knowing the true reason.

It is a good movie to watch. It teaches us from many sides. The struggling of Percy to prove himself that he wasnot the lightening thief make this movie be the good movie who teach us not to accept an accuse for something that we never do.
